Can’t Look Away: The Lure of Horror Film

Opening in 2011, EMP Museum’s horror film retrospective exhibit is an in-depth look at horror, and how it’s expressed through cinema, biology, history, and contemporary culture. For this project, I spearheaded the graphic look and feel which included illustration art direction, data visualizations, icon design, interactive graphics, interior design, and a robust typographic system.

Curated by Jacob McMurray. Exhibition design by Ken Burns. Logo lettering by Jon Contino. Monster illustrations by Invisible Creature. Photography by Linday Borden.

37 different timeline icons denoting character, conflict, exposition, and style.

Throughout the exhibit, iPad kiosks provided deeper horror film content in a light and approachable way. Museum goers are able to easily view film clips, interview footage, and horror film facts. iPad IOS development by The Curio Dept.
